From the Pastor

As a church family, I wanted to share with you something our staff did this year to improve our personal health. Back in February, our church staff began a voluntary "Biggest Loser" competition. The goal was better wellness for our staff, which not only has health benefits for each individual but also helps the church from a health insurance perspective.

Over 12 weeks, those who participated were challenged to eat healthy, keep a food journal, exercise, and memorize Scripture. Each participant paid to be in the program, and each week you weighed-in and paid $1. If you gained weight, you got to pay $2. Everyone who participated was divided into teams, which came up with some pretty creative names. One team was called Waist Management. Another team was called Project 330 taken from John 3:30 which says, "He must increase, I must decrease." Each week (based on keeping your food journal, memorizing Scripture, and working out), you were entered into a drawing for small prizes and bragging rights. It was a lot of fun.

Over the course of the program, the staff lost a total of 372.5 lbs. What was even more exciting was to hear the testimonies of people saying that our competition got them going again and they are sticking to the lifestyle change that has brought success in their lives. We had two winners of the competition. Our overall female winner was Margaret Mascorro who lost 12.65% and our overall male winner was David Maki who lost 14.69%. Congratulations to both of them and everyone else who participated in the competition.

The competition ended with our first ever Staff 5K out at The Fields (see the picture above). We had a great time running and walking and celebrating the end of the 12 weeks. We were all encouraged in losing weight and being healthy. As believers, we have a temple that God expects us to take care of and sometimes a little friendly competition can help us in our "temple management." I hope this story about our staff encourages you and maybe even challenges you to eat right, exercise, memorize Scripture, and take care of the body the Lord has given you.

The Best is yet to come!

Middle School Camp
This year, middle school students (those who have completed 6-8 grade) are returning to Latham Springs for Wired Camp. The camp theme is Enough. This camp offers a lot of fun things for students, but it also focuses on deeper things through teaching sessions and "track" times. A few examples of topics covered in these track times are spiritual gifts, evangelism, cults and religions, and gender-only topics, as well as drama and media groups. We must be sure we have space on the bus, so register early. The cost for camp is $200 per camper. A $50 deposit is due when you register. Please register below.

The camp pastor will serve as master teacher every morning for Bible study for all XFUGE participants. Our students will have the chance to do group building recreation activities, explore the city, or attend Centrifuge track times. For more information, download the Parent Information packet. The cost for camp is $249 per camper. A $50 deposit is due when you register. Please register below.

Shoebox Ministry

Will you contribute an item for a birthday shoebox for a child? Our Shoebox Ministry continues to help children in homeless shelters and children of military. These are the most needed items: small books, jump ropes, pencils, crayons and coloring books, small toys and games, non-chocolate candy, socks, toothbrushes and toothpaste, underwear for boys, preteen and teen stuff! Donated items can be placed in the marked basket at the Information Center or brought to Forerunner Tuesday on May 21.

Show Some Love

Show Some Love is a 90-day challenge to take the Lord at His Word and commit to tithe. Whether you are currently tithing or have never tithed, our church is being challenged to commit to tithe during May, June, and July to prove to ourselves the Lord's faithfulness. Be encouraged to step out by faith over these 90 days and see what the Lord will do in your life. May 5 is our launch Sunday and we are encouraging people who have gotten behind in their tithe to use that as a catch-up Sunday. If you have never tithed, let Show Some Love encourage you to take a new step of faith in your life.
