Rip Cannon
Associate Pastor, Senior Adults & Pastoral Care

Rip Cannon is from Paris, Texas where he was the Choral Director at Paris High School for ten years (the high school he attended). He was offered the Choral Director position after his graduation from East Texas State University with a Bachelor in Science degree. While there the choirs placed students in the Texas All State Choir on a regular basis and won many UIL First Division awards. During this time he did graduate studies at ETSU in choral conducting. He also served three area churches as Minister of Music during this time.

In 1972 he and his family moved to Metairie, La. (New Orleans) to become Minister of Music at the Memorial Baptist Church of Metairie. As time allowed, he continued studies at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1975 he moved to Carrollton to become the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton. He served in that position until 2001. Rip has served in many roles outside the local ministry through the years, including the organization of a 2200 voice choir for the Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast that sang on the day President Ronald Reagan was nominated for his second term of office. The Sanctuary Choir was also asked to be one of two local choirs to provide the music on the day Dallas honored Coach Tom Landry with a parade in downtown Dallas.

In 2001 Rip became Associate Pastor for Older Adult Ministries and Pastoral Care. He has been active in organizing local and regional organizations that focus on senior adult ministries. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Senior Adult Services of the Metrocrest.

Rip and his wife Nan, who serves on staff at First Baptist Carrollton, have two sons, Chip and Skip.
